As a lash artist creating a full set of lashes with volume that will have good lash retention is VERY important. Your clients come to you because mascara doesn’t make their lashes fuller and lash strips damage their natural lashes. There are two major keys to creating full lash extensions that most lash artist don’t know. Here’s how to lash better and keep your clients happy.
Keys to Fuller Lash Extensions
Our job as lash artists is to use lash extensions to give volume and length to our client’s natural lashes. It doesn’t matter if it’s classic lash sets, hybrid lash sets, or volume lash sets.
Know Lash Growth Cycles
The first thing you need to learn are lash cycles so you know which natural lashes to apply a lash extension. The is a very important step in creating full lash extension sets that will last up to 3 weeks!
Natural lashes go through different growth cycles, as a lash artist you need to understand the cycles to avoid damaging the client’s lashes and help your lash sets last longer
There are three lash growth cycles:
- Anagen (baby lashes)
- Catagen (teenage lashes)
- Telogen (adult lashes)
- Lastly, the telogen will shed from the hair follicle
Why you shouldn’t lash “baby” lashes.
The small lashes that you see on the lash line are baby lashes (anagen). These are lashes just growing out and are new. As the lashes grow they will move into the teenage stage (catagen), this is the strongest the lash will be and still be stable within the lash line. The next stage is the telogen (adult lash), this is the oldest the lash will be…and then it will shed.
Never apply lash extensions to baby lashes because it’s too heavy and will cause the natural lash to break off.
Apply Lash Extensions to EVERY Layer
Your natural lashes grow in layers so in order to get fuller lashes, you will need to apply a lash extension to the lashes on ALL the layers. This the second but very vital step in giving your client full lash extensions.
I know you’re probably wondering, “Well how do I know where the lash layers are in order provide full coverage?”. You have to isolate the natural lashes using lash tape. Use lash tape to reveal the lash layers and apply extensions. Once you start to lash all of the lash layers your lash sets will be ALOT fuller. Your lash sets will last longer as well because once the lashes start to shed, your client will have less gaps in their lashes.
